Massachusetts Conference for Women 2014 Inspiring Keynote Speech- Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o was every bit of lovely than you thought she would be. Ever poised and chic in frames she talked about being fearful of being who she always knew she had to be. See women, at the time girls, like her and in her position, a daughter of a politician in Kenya did not become actors. They became doctors or lawyers or some other respectable profession. For years, she battled with the idea of becoming who she was. She felt so much pressure to decide. “I now believe that we should define ourselves as as many things as possible for as long as possible – especially children.” She encouraged everyone one to dream and reminded us that no matter what the nay sayers say, “Our dreams belong to us.” She challenged us to open ourselves up to failure because in order to reach your potential, “You must be louder than your critic and faster than your worry.” She also gave 7 tips of advice ending with, “It will always be harder or different when you grow…It doesn’t ever get comfortable, but it does get familiar”.
